At noon on October 14, Wu Qing, the District Party Chief, met Kimberly Mann, head of the UN research project on Holocaust, and Corrie Sterry, director of the education department of Holocaust Research Foundation of University of Southern California, at the VIP Room of the district government. The two sides held friendly talks on questions of common interest.
Kimberly Mann and Corrie Sterry introduced the UN research project on Holocaust to Mr. Wu. They said that Tilanqiao in Hongkou, as the main asylum for Jewish refugees in China during World War II, still preserved the Jewish ghetto style at that time. It is the only historical relic that could reflect the life of Jewish refugees during World War II in China. Therefore, they expect to establish long term friendly cooperation with Hongkou District to collect and sort out the information of Jewish refugees here and thus promote the new development of the research project.
Wu Qing showed his gratitude to the care and support of the UN and the world renowned university first. Later, he introduced the major methods of Hongkou District in the building of Jewish Refugees Museum, the protection of historical data of Jewish refugees, and the related international communication and historical education. He hoped that the two sides will strengthen their cooperation in the research on Jewish refugees, enrich and improve the historical data, and evoke the memory of the history in more people.
