Hongkou: 8 Bay-style Bus Stations Added This Year

Recently, it is learned from Hongkou District Traffic Management Center that this year, 8 new bay-style bus stations are added in the district, and the traffic capacity of main roads in the downtown area is further improved, successfully completing the practical task of the municipal government in the construction of the bay-style bus stations in 2020.

According to reports, many bus stations in the downtown area are characterized by the straight-line style as limited by the width of the roads. During peak hours, several buses pull in the same station together, with many passengers getting on and off. Therefore, these buses stay at the stations for a short time, which hinder the driving of other vehicles behind and cause traffic congestion. In addition, some bus stations are close to the intersections, and the buses have to violate the regulation to change to other lane across the full-lines after leaving the stations, which lead to great potential hazards. The Hongkou District Construction and Management Committee and the Hongkou District Traffic Management Center took the opportunity of learning the "Four Histories", considered the parking conditions of bus stations and related main roads, drew lessons from the mode of docking ships at ports, and built 8 bay-style bus stations upon field survey and bus parking frequency analysis.

At the crossroads of Dongbaoxing Road and Qingyun Road, it is seen that the newly reconstructed bay-style station is designed into an arc-shaped concave shape, which enables 3 buses to simultaneously park. There is also a special lane for non-motor vehicles. "As the bay-style stations are put into use, the problem that buses’ pulling into stations affects smooth traffic can be solved. It is safer for passengers to get on and off buses, and there is no need for buses to change to other lane across full-lines", the staff in charge of the construction said.

An official of Hongkou District Traffic Management Center says that efforts will be made to continuously speed up the construction and renewal of transportation infrastructure, overcome the difficulties such as small road space in the district and continuously promote the construction of bay-style stations to alleviate problems, such as the difficulty in buses pulling into stations and the traffic congestion, and improve the bus stations’ quality.
