Tiantong Road Widening and Reconstruction Project Completed

Recently, a piece of good news about the major project construction in the district came again. The widening and reconstruction project of Tiantong Road (the North Henan Road - Wusong Road section) in the core area of the North Bund has completed. The efficiency of vehicle traffic between Jing'an district and Hongkou district has been greatly improved.
It is reported that the total length of Tiantong Road (the North Henan Road - Wusong Road section) is about 700 meters. It is an important transportation corridor connecting Hongkou and Jing'an. There are excellent historical buildings such as Shanghai Post Museum and Xinya Hotel along the road, which can be described as a small "Facade" of Hongkou. However, with the increasing of traffic and people flow in the Hongkou section of Tiantong Road, the two-way two-lane road traffic has already been saturated, which has become the traffic bottleneck and blocking point in the North Bund area. Citizens' demand for road widening is very strong.
In order to make up for the shortcoming of urban comprehensive transportation and effectively improve the regional function, Hongkou has incorporated it into the implementation plan of the connecting roads of districts and carried out the road widening and reconstruction project of the Hongkou section of Tiantong road. According to the person in charge of the site construction, the Tiantong road is 32 meters wide, the original 2 lanes are upgraded to 4 lanes, and the whole road is equipped with non-motorized vehicle lanes, which are secondary urban trunk roads. The construction not only effectively works out the road traffic congestion points in Hongkou and Jing'an, but also facilitates the rapid entry of motor vehicles from the Bund to the North Bund along North Sichuan Road and Zhapu Road. In addition, the project of connecting overhead lines into the ground and lessening the poles has been carried out simultaneously to eliminate the "black pollution" and various signs that have been standing over Tiantong Road for many years, so as to create a beautiful block with "no line, few poles and beautiful scenery".
Although the total length of the road section of widening and reconstruction is only about 700 meters, the traffic flow of the Hongkou section of Tiantong Road is large, and the traffic carrying function is heavy, which necessitates the smooth traffic during the construction period. Therefore, the district construction management committee and the traffic police department shall guide the construction unit to prepare the refined traffic organization scheme of temporary crossing construction in sections and emergency plan, and minimize the impact of construction on road traffic by means of rational layout of construction site, the scientific arrangement of construction operation time, and the addition of traffic assistants.
In the construction process, due to the complexity of underground pipelines of Tiantong Road (the North Henan Road - Wusong Road section), involving multiple ownership departments of power, telecommunication, gas and water supply, the district construction management committee specially organized technicians from the urban and district power supply department, the information pipeline company, the water supply company and other relevant units to conduct field survey, verify the pipeline positions marked on the construction drawings one by one, and then reasonably relocate, protect and replace existing pipelines. For the pipeline with unclear marks, the sample hole is explored before excavation to ensure the "zero occurrence" of pipeline accident.
During the "13th Five-year Plan" period, the district successively completed the project of roads connecting districts including Anfen Road, Hengshui Road, Sanmen Road, Zhuzhou Road and Tiantong Road, breaking through the road traffic bottleneck. At the next stage, the district will continue to work with relevant municipal departments to carry out more in-depth preliminary research and project reserve for traffic improvement problems of misplaced roads and bottleneck roads in the jurisdiction area, further accelerate the solution of the people's worry, improve the regional road network structure, and enhance the citizens' sense of gain and satisfaction.
