Founded in 1946, Shanghai Research Institute of Materials used to be the research institute directly affiliated to the former Ministry of Machinery and Industry. In 1999, it changed into a state-owned enterprise of Shanghai. It is the member unit of China Machinery Industry Federation, the specially appointed enterprise for testing material technology of machinery industry, the member unit of Shanghai Academy of Science, the High-tech Enterprise of Shanghai, Faithful and Credible Enterprise of Shanghai.
