On July 8, Mr. Tian donated 400 milliliters of whole blood at a blood collection point in Guangzhong Sub-district. He told that, this was the fourth time he had participated in blood voluntarily. “I believe blood donation is not only helpful to one’s health, but also to others, which is a very meaningful thing.” On the same day, more than 200 residents donated blood at the sub-district blood collection station. They included not only community residents, but also employees of the enterprises whose construction was involved in by the sub-district and private business owners.
It was learned that, the summer is the time when such accidents as car accidents and burns occur frequently, and the amount of blood used clinically is large. Therefore, every summer, the blood use pressure in the city’s blood bank will suddenly increase, and many hospitals will also suffer from “anemia”. Relevant person in charge of the district blood management office that, in addition to the increase in increasing temperature, the significantly-decreased number of voluntary blood donors, and certain resident’s incorrect understanding of blood donation in summer are also one of the reasons for the decreasing blood donation in summer.
The official expressed understanding of the resident’s concerns, but said that although the human body perspires a lot and consumes a lot of energy in summer, blood donation in summer will not have any adverse effects on the health as long as the sufficient sleep is ensured before blood donation, water and nutrition are properly supplemented, and work and rest are well arranged after blood donation. Therefore, it will still be appreciated that, the majority of healthy residents at the right age may bravely stretch out their arms to relieve the blood shortage.
As reported, up to now, the summer blood donation activities in Hongkou have been successively carried out in the Sub-districts of Jiangwan Town and Guangzhong Road, collecting 412 blood samples, totaling 82,400 milliliters. By the end of this month, the work will be carried out in other sub-districts. Community residents who intend to donate blood may visit the neighborhood committees where they live to ask for details.
