“Face-to-Face with Masters” Violin Concert in Hongkou District
On June 2, 2013, with the beautiful melody of “The Butterfly Lovers” violin concerto, the “Face-to-Face with Masters: Violin Concert of Chen Gang and Li Pei” raised curtain in Hongkou District. This concert is a part of the “Lecture Room of Shanghai” serial events.
Chen Gang, a famous composer in China, tells the story of how he created “The Butterfly Lovers” violin concerto with He Zhanhao, and played “Rose, I Love You” and “Night in Shanghai”, to the audiences. These two songs were created by Chen Gang’s father, Chen Gexin, and were widely-known classical songs in old Shanghai.
Li Pei, a famous violinist and the concertmaster of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, played the extracts of “The Butterfly Lovers”, “Golden Stove” and “Sunshine in Tashkurghan” on the concert. Audiences applauded to his excellent performance.
“Lecture Room of Shanghai” is a cultural salon that aims to “carry forward Shanghai culture and safeguard spiritual hometown”. It aims to popularize classical arts among the general public and help audiences to appreciate elegant classical arts.
Officials from the four leaderships in Hongkou District, including Sun Jianping, Guan Weiyong, Du Jiong, Zhang Xiping, Chen Lichun and Chen Liang, attended the concert.
