XOMETRY Technologies, a Hongkou-based digital manufacturing startup, reported 120 million yuan in revenue for 2024, marking exponential year-on-year growth.
The company expects to maintain its rapid expansion trajectory in 2025, according to General Manager Xiang Huizhi.
Founded in 2021 as the China arm of a Nasdaq-listed company, XOMETRY leverages artificial intelligence and automation to streamline on-demand manufacturing.
Since landing in Hongkou, it has transformed from a fledgling startup into a key business hub for the Asia-Pacific region.
XOMETRY specializes in converting innovative designs into tangible products through its AI-powered quoting and supply-matching system.
The platform integrates over 10,000 vetted manufacturers across industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical devices, semiconductors, and new energy.
Its clientele ranges from Fortune 500 companies like BMW and Bosch to startups and research institutions.
Xiang said the firm’s core advantage lies in its ability to automate traditionally time-consuming processes.
“Our platform can generate an accurate quote within seconds based on part specifications, then match the order with the most suitable supplier. This reduces over 90 percent of labor costs and doubles processing efficiency,” she said.
One recent success story involved Professor Fu from Wuhan Institute of Technology, who urgently needed large, custom robotic parts. After struggling to find a capable vendor, he turned to XOMETRY.
The company quickly assembled a dedicated team to manage the design-to-delivery process, ensuring high-quality results on a tight schedule.
“XOMETRY exceeded our expectations. Their timely response and reliable delivery allowed our design to move forward without delays,” Fu said.
Globally, XOMETRY supports international clients through its parent company’s resources. When BMW’s US plant needed customized jigs for vehicle assembly, traditional CNC machining proved costly and slow.
Using XOMETRY’s digital manufacturing platform, the plant achieved faster turnaround and simplified supply chain management.
“Xometry makes our work easier and more professional. We just place the order, and they take care of the rest,” said BMW tooling engineer Ryan Lambert.
Backed by Hongkou District’s robust business support system, XOMETRY has expanded its footprint across China and the Asia-Pacific.
Hongkou’s high-efficiency government services helped XOMETRY establish operations in record time, completing name changes and trade qualifications in just two weeks.
Local authorities also proactively linked XOMETRY to policy incentives like employment subsidies, which the company reinvested into local digital marketing and development projects.
XOMETRY has also developed a supplier management system modeled after ride-hailing platforms. It uses tagging, algorithmic matching, and performance scoring to optimize supplier relationships.
Government-backed talent and technology subsidies accelerated the company’s ability to localize and scale quickly within the Chinese market.
Looking ahead, XOMETRY plans to deepen its footprint in advanced manufacturing and help more companies accelerate digital transformation.
“Hongkou has been fertile ground for our growth,” Xiang said. “We’re committed to building on this momentum and making Shanghai a launchpad for global innovation.”
