The Hongkou District Writers Association recently held its first council’s second meeting and inaugurated the "Writer's Home" Workstation initiative, aiming to inject new vitality into the district's cultural landscape.
The event was attended by Ma Wenyun, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Executive Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Writers Association, and Wu Qiang, Member of the Hongkou District Standing Committee and Head of the Publicity Department.
During the meeting, Liu Wei, a member of the National Committee of the China Writers Association, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Writers Association, and Chairman of the Hongkou District Writers Association, delivered a report summarizing the association’s accomplishments over the past year.
Hongkou District Writers Association's Executive Vice Chairman Yuan Xingjin also presented a detailed review of the district's literary achievements and experiences.
In 2024, Hongkou made notable progress in literary development and attracted a lot of talented writers.
The association launched North Bund Literature magazine, providing a high-quality platform to showcase regional culture. The publication of the Meet Hongkou anthology captured the district's historical transformations.
Additionally, nine major cultural events, including a national online writers’ field study, an international literature week, and citywide reading promotions, reached tens of thousands of participants.
Furthermore, the "Famous Writers Interviews" series attracted over 370,000 online viewers, fostering a stronger connection between literature and the public while enhancing Hongkou’s cultural influence.
Looking ahead, the association will focus on integrating literature into urban development under the district’s "Cultural Three Centers" strategy. It aims to incubate literary works of excellence, strengthen the district’s literary brand, and foster collaboration across sectors like technology and education.
By optimizing the functions of the “Writer’s Home” workstations, the association seeks to create a vibrant platform for literary exchange, encouraging both local and international authors to engage with Hongkou’s rich cultural environment.
During the event, the first seven “Writer's Home” workstations received official plaques. Designed as multifunctional hubs, these spaces will host literary critique salons, writing workshops, and cultural exchanges.
They will also offer accommodation and other conveniences to visiting authors from across China and abroad, providing a supportive environment that nurtures creative endeavors.
The establishment of these workstations reflects the association's commitment to motivating authors, promoting cultural exchange, and driving high-quality literary output.
It further supports Hongkou’s vision of becoming a leading cultural hub, contributing to the district’s aspirations for high-quality development, enhanced living standards, and effective governance.
Moving forward, the Hongkou District Writers Association remains dedicated to uniting and inspiring writers, fostering a thriving literary community, and exploring new horizons for cultural development.
