The 8th General Assembly of the Hongkou District Overseas Friendship Association has convened to strengthen global ties and support the district’s development goals.
Li Qian, the Party Secretary of Hongkou, expressed his deep gratitude for the association's efforts in combining friendship with economic, technological, and cultural exchange.
He praised the association for facilitating Hongkou’s growing connections with international communities, which have contributed to the district's increasing prominence in trade and investment.
"The overseas Chinese community is a critical platform for unity and a bridge to strengthen relations between our homeland and communities abroad," Li said, urging the association to continue playing a vital role in fostering understanding and collaboration.
In his remarks, Li emphasized that the association should remain steadfast in its commitment to patriotism and recognize its crucial role in achieving China’s reunification and national rejuvenation.
"We must continue to rally the overseas Chinese to unite and contribute to the greater cause of our nation," he stressed.
Li further underscored the importance of enhancing Hongkou’s international outreach by leveraging the association’s unique position.
He called for a greater emphasis on using Hongkou as a “bridge” for international cooperation, aiming for higher-quality and deeper partnerships across all sectors.
As the association gears up for the next phase of growth, Li Qian highlighted the importance of strengthening its institutional foundation, streamlining communication channels, and refining coordination mechanisms.
"We must enhance the vitality of our operations and adapt to the evolving needs of society," he noted. The goal is to create a robust system that can attract the younger generation, especially those from overseas Chinese communities, to contribute to China's long-term stability and prosperity.
The meeting also included the approval of the work report from the 7th Board of Directors, along with the revision of the association's constitution.
A new leadership team was elected, comprising members of the Executive Board and Supervisory Board, tasked with steering the organization into its next phase of growth.
Since its establishment in 1989, the Hongkou Overseas Friendship Association has served as a key player in strengthening ties with global Chinese communities.
The association will focus on using its influence to support the district’s efforts to become a key showcase for China’s modernization and a symbol of Hongkou’s role in the global landscape.
The association's new initiatives will focus on uniting overseas Chinese and broadening Hongkou's "international circle" through enhanced communication and collaboration with global communities.
"We are committed to strengthening Hongkou’s position as a leader in open exchanges and international cooperation," Li said, underscoring that these efforts will contribute to the district’s overall economic and social vitality.
