Li Qian, the Party Secretary of Hongkou, met with Ambassador Masaru Okada, the Consul General of Japan in Shanghai, and his delegation.
The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on further strengthening the friendship and enhancing economic and trade cooperation between the two regions.
Li Qian extended a warm welcome to Okada and his team, providing an overview of Hongkou’s economic and social development.
He emphasized that China and Japan share a long history of friendly exchanges, given their close geographical proximity.
He expressed hope that both sides could implement the important agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries, reinforcing the foundation for cooperative relations and further deepening practical collaboration in areas such as trade, culture, tourism, and healthcare.
Li also highlighted Hongkou’s commitment to providing high-quality services for Japanese enterprises and residents, aiming to ensure the healthy development of Japanese investment in the district.
In response, Okada expressed gratitude for the long-standing support Hongkou has extended to Japanese enterprises and expatriates.
He noted that Hongkou is one of the most active districts in Shanghai for Sino-Japanese interaction.
Okada conveyed his hope that the meeting would serve as a new starting point for strengthening exchanges and cooperation in various fields, contributing further to the development of Japan-China relations.
In recent years, the two sides have made significant strides in deepening mutually beneficial cooperation, expanding shared interests, and enhancing cultural exchanges.
Notable cultural projects, such as the "1927: Lu Xun and the Uchiyama Bookstore" exhibition, have become symbols of the flourishing Sino-Japanese cultural dialogue.
Prominent Japanese multinational companies, including Panasonic, Shiseido, and ORIX, have established a strong presence in Hongkou, not only contributing to the district’s foreign-related economic growth but also becoming key drivers for regional economic integration.
