The North Bund Shipping Services High-Quality Development Conference and the release of the "Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Centre Development Index" took place at the North Bund on August 21.
The event, attended by key figures such as Vice Mayor Zhang Xiaohong and former Vice Minister of Transport Xu Zuyuan, focused on the continued elevation of Shanghai's status as a leading international shipping center.
For the 11th consecutive year, the "Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Centre Development Index" was released, ranking Shanghai third globally, further cementing its role in international maritime commerce.
During the event, significant maritime service projects were launched at the North Bund, including the establishment of the "North Bund High-End Shipping Services Expert Think Tank" and the "North Bund International Maritime Arbitration Talent Training Base."
These initiatives aim to enhance Shanghai's capacity for global maritime resource allocation and develop a robust legal services ecosystem centered on maritime arbitration.
Hongkou District, as the birthplace of China's modern shipping industry, is leveraging its historical and industrial strengths to become a core hub for high-end maritime services.
Recent efforts have included the establishment of the North Bund Shipping Dispute Prevention and Resolution Center and hosting the "Judicial and Arbitration" forums, which are integral to the annual North Bund International Shipping Forum.
These steps are part of a broader strategy to create a high-quality legal services ecosystem in support of Shanghai's ambition to strengthen its position as an international shipping center.
The conference also featured the signing of 10 new shipping-related projects, further propelling the high-quality development of the shipping industry in Hongkou.
Experts and industry leaders discussed critical themes such as transforming Shanghai into a preferred location for international maritime dispute resolution and how financial services can better support the shipping industry.
Attendees included senior officials, representatives from government agencies, industry associations, shipping companies, academic think tanks, and professional service organizations, all contributing to the vibrant discussions on the future of maritime services at the North Bund.
