Major project construction across Hongkou District has been progressing steadily and accelerating since the beginning of 2024, the district’s Construction Management Committee said.
As of June, 950,000 square meters have been completed, accounting for 67.8 percent of the annual target of 1.4 million square meters. From January to May, the total investment in major engineering projects in the district reached 5.11 billion yuan.
Among the key projects, the North Bund Block 90 project commenced on January 5. The project is bordered by Dantu Road to the east, East Daming Road to the south, Gaoyang Road to the west, and East Changzhi Road to the north.
It neighbors the under-construction 480-meter-high tallest building in Puxi, the historical Gaoyang Building, and the planned North Bund central green axis. The project aims to form a commercial complex that, together with 18 other buildings over 180 meters in height, will shape the most beautiful skyline in Puxi.
The Jiangwan Town Subdistrict Block HK0018-33 Project began on March 7. It plans to construct four residential buildings and supporting facilities with a total construction area of about 42,000 square meters, including 27,000 square meters above ground and 15,000 square meters underground. The buildings will be 23 stories tall, reaching 70 meters, with two underground levels.
Starting on March 8, the Block 138 Residential project is a historical preservation project close to the North Bund core area, about 1 kilometer from the Huangpu River.
Covering 60,200 square meters, it consists of nine blocks. The project aims to enhance the area's appeal to high-end talent while preserving the historical appearance and street layout of Shanghai.
Shanghai Nanhu Vocational and Technical College Sanmen Road Campus Dormitory Project began on March 15 by the Hongkou District Education Bureau. It covers an area of 11,000 square meters with a new construction area of approximately 9,556 square meters.
The Block 176 Urban Renewal Project started on March 20. It will include a 100-meter-tall, 26-story tower and a five-story podium building forming a commercial complex. The project aims to blend historical preservation with urban renewal by reconstructing and relocating historical buildings.
Duolun Road Phase II Commercial Office Project was initiated on April 30 by Shanghai Hongfu Construction Development Co. Spanning 40,000 square meters, the project includes a 140-meter-high, 27-story building and a two-story underground space. It aims to revive the century-old cultural community and re-establish an elegant and vibrant urban landmark.
The Block 156 Residential Project started on May 15. It will offer around 50 low-density residential units in a historical setting, covering 39,000 square meters with 14,000 square meters above ground and 25,000 square meters underground, reaching a height of 15 meters.
Zhonghuang Plaza (Phase II) Project was completed on January 5. Covering 20,900 square meters, it includes eight residential buildings with a maximum height of 100 meters (31 stories) and three underground levels.
Xinhong Yipin Jiayuan (Block 101) Project was completed on January 25. It spans 18,500 square meters, including four residential buildings, one office building, two commercial buildings, and an underground garage, with the tallest structure reaching 100 meters (32 stories).
Haimen Road 630 Block Project (Zhongyin Plaza) was Completed on April 30. It features two "twin towers" and commercial facilities, covering 26,000 square meters with a total construction area of 167,000 square meters. The project aims to create a stylish, active, and pleasant commercial and office community in Hongkou and is currently initiating related leasing activities.
The district government said various measures are in place to comprehensively promote the coordination and service guarantees for these major projects.
The district will strengthen coordination and advancement efforts, fully support project progress, and rely on dedicated major project service teams. The goal is to ensure the completion of annual tasks and objectives, the government said.
