Rhenus Air & Ocean, a key enterprise of Hongkou District, celebrated its relocation of China headquarters to the North Bund on April 30, marking a significant development in the district's commercial landscape.
Rhenus Group, a global logistics service provider headquartered in Germany, has established a strong presence worldwide with branches across Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and India, maintaining a high brand influence in global logistics.
In Hongkou, the group's entities include Rhenus Logistics (Shanghai) Co., Rhenus Warehousing Solutions (Shanghai) Co., and Rhenus International Freight Forwarding (Shanghai) Co., with the latter being identified as a key enterprise for stable growth in the district.
The new headquarters within the North Bund area -- a pivotal zone in the construction of Shanghai's international shipping center—positions Rhenus in a strategic hub that already hosts over 4,000 maritime enterprises, including global shipping giants such as Mediterranean Shipping Company, COSCO Shipping Lines, and Hapag-Lloyd, as well as nearly 40 maritime functional organizations like the ICS Shanghai Representative Office, China Ports Association, and Shanghai Shipping Exchange.
The move is anticipated to leverage transformative opportunities in the shipping industry, fostering resource sharing and synergy to propel both Rhenus Group and Hongkou to new heights, the district government said.
Hongkou has long prioritized engagement and cooperation with Germany, achieving substantial outcomes in fields like technology innovation and industrial development.
Numerous leading German enterprises, including Hapag-Lloyd, Siemens Industry Software, and Schenker Asia Pacific, have established regional headquarters and operational hubs in the district.
Hongkou will persist in supporting corporate development as a committed business partner, ensuring that enterprises benefit distinctively from their localization in the district, the government said.
