Hongkou District’s scenic areas, attractions, and cultural tourism venues have welcomed over 182,000 visitors during the New Year holiday, according to the statistics of the district’s Cultural and Tourism Bureau.
The district has launched a multitude of fascinating cultural and tourism activities for the three-day holiday, with the cultural tourism market operating safely and orderly, the bureau said.
With its popular scenic spots, the North Bund attracted an increasing number of city residents and tourists. During the New Year holiday, the SIPG Cruise City received over 28,000 visitors, while the Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal welcomed over 20,000 visitors.
With stable weather conditions, many residents and tourists chose to visit parks in Hongkou. More than 80,000 visitors flocked to Luxun Park, while the Heping Park welcomed over 45,000 visitors.
The interest in red tourism, or those related to the history of Communist Party of China, continued to grow. The Site of the 4th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which includes the Memorial of the Site of the Chinese Left-Wing Writers' League and the Former Residence of Martyr Li Bai, saw a significant increase in visitor numbers compared to last year.
Cultural activities were abundant. For instance, The INLET hosted the first Shanghai Citizens' Digital Art Achievement Exhibition during the New Year period, showcasing over 60 pieces of digital art.
In addition, the traditional Chinese intangible cultural heritage market also opened, where visitors could enjoy heritage delicacies, admire traditional exquisite crafts, and experience the beauty of Suzhou embroidery.
Moreover, the 2024 Plum Blossom Cottage Art Season was launched, with activities aiming to promote traditional culture and telling Chinese stories.
The district's cultural center launched "Welcoming New Year" themed mobile photography art online lectures, providing unique experiences for the residents of Hongkou during the New Year holiday.
On New Year's day, a themed event titled "Books and Films Alongside –Celebrating New Year with Joy, Books and Films Full of Fragrance" was held, introducing the comedy film "Long Live the Wife", adapted from the novel by the female writer Zhang Ailing, allowing participants to revisit the intricate blend of family, love, and the flavors of life portrayed in the movie.
To ensure a safe and orderly New Year holiday for residents and tourists, various departments in Hongkou collaborated closely, meticulously planning, and going all out to ensure safety.
The Cultural and Tourism Bureau conducted safety production inspections, strengthening safety management and advisories in scenic areas.
Cultural and tourism venues, scenic areas, and hotels carried out self-inspections for safety production. Enforcement teams intensified safety inspections and launched a special campaign for the overhaul and rectification of the cultural and tourism industry.
The bureau has also issued safety production work advisories for the cultural and tourism industry during the festival, organized safety production deployment meetings for internet cafes, KTVs, script entertainment, and performance venues.
