On the morning of September 4, District Party Chief Li Qian met with Hedwige Nuyens, President of the International Banking Federation, and her delegation. Both sides discussed further strengthening exchange and cooperation.
Li Qian, on behalf of the CPC district committee and the district government, welcomed and thanked Hedwige Nuyens and her delegation, and introduced relevant information on regional economic and social development. Li said that Hongkou was building a hub for wealth management and asset management institutions, and utilizing the superior geographical location of the North Bund to actively integrate into the construction of Shanghai’s International Financial Center. The number of financial enterprises in Hongkou had reached 2,118, with an asset management scale of over 8 trillion yuan. It had gathered nearly one-eighth of public fund management companies and one-sixth of futures risk management subsidiaries in the country, and there were 15 private equity companies with a scale of 10 billion yuan.
Li added that economic globalization is the path to common prosperity in the world, and the banking industry has played an important role in promoting high-quality economic development. It was expected that the International Banking Federation could utilize its professional advantages to provide consultation and suggestions for the development of Hongkou’s finance, continuously expand the circle of friends, and promote exchanges and cooperation in more fields. Hongkou would further improve its supporting services and continuously enhance the internationalization level of the financial industry. Both sides would work together to make positive contributions to promoting stable and healthy economic development.
Hedwige Nuyens introduced the mission and vision of the International Banking Federation. The International Banking Federation is composed of banking associations from various countries, representing the joint views of these associations, and it plays a crucial role in supporting and promoting economic growth.
Hedwige Nuyens added that China's economy was developing rapidly. She hoped to leverage the role of the International Banking Federation, gather the wisdom of banks from various countries, promote open and transparent exchange and better share experiences, and reach a consensus. Efforts should be made to make long-term plans, accelerate digital transformation, seize development opportunities, and further promote economic prosperity, technological change, green environmental protection, etc.
Also attending the meeting were Chen Shuai, Vice District Governor, Cong Yang, former class-2 inspector from the Shanghai Banking and Insurance Regulatory Bureau, Huan Xiaoqin, President of the Shanghai Institute of International Economics, and Xu Can, President of the Shanghai Branch of the China International Peace Exchange Foundation.
After the meeting, Hedwige Nuyens visited the North Bund Raffles Party-Mass Service Station and Broadway Mansions Hotel.
