Recently, scorching days have stricken frequently in Shanghai. In order to care for the elderly in the community, especially the elderly groups living alone or those at high age, the sub-districts and civil affairs departments in Hongkou have launched various cooling and caring measures, including setting up cooling pavilions, sending cool articles, and setting up emergency repair hotlines for the elderly.
Jinyuan Residential Area in Liangcheng Xincun Sub-district is a large residential area with more than 3,000 households, including more than 150 elderly people over 80 living alone. "Grandma Ye, don't go out these two days when it's 40 degrees Celsius outside. If you have any needs, please call the neighborhood committee..." These days, the cadres of Jinyuan Neighborhood Committee reminded the elderly of heatstroke prevention and not going out in daytime, and sent mung beans, rock sugar, toilet water and other summer relief articles to the elderly who lived alone.
Huang Huijun, Chief of Neighborhood Committee, told that in order to help the elderly without air conditioning at home, the neighborhood committee set up a cooling pavilion in the residents' activity room for the elderly under the condition of strict pandemic control measures.
Ouyang Road Sub-district, in order to ensure that the elderly spend the summer in a cool place, cares about the daily life of the elderly and reminds the elderly of heatstroke prevention and electricity safety by pairing the volunteers in the same building group with the elderly who need special attention, such as the elderly who live alone. At the same time, the sub-district has installed intelligent circuit breakers for 58 elderly people living alone to monitor the power consumption. The intelligent circuit breakers will send an alert to the police in case of abnormalities.
For the elderly who need to meal delivery, the sub-district provides cheap and good meals every day. In addition, the sub-district has set up a special "Ouyang Help You" hotline to deliver the services urgently needed by the elderly, such as purchasing vegetables, dispensing drugs, and etc.
North Sichuan Road Sub-district gave full play to the strength of elderly care consultants, cadres in residential areas, the "old pal program" volunteers, home-based elderly care nurses of long-term care insurance, elderly meal distributors and other forces to visit the elderly in the jurisdiction.
Through chatting with the elderly, they can learn more about the health and daily life of the elderly during the scorching days. besides, they urge the elders to pay more attention to the safety of diet in summer, avoid overnight meals, pay attention to safety when going out, and beware of heatstroke. In the process of door-to-door visits, the paired volunteers also checked the water, electricity, gas and other facilities in the elderly's home, so as to timely help the elderly troubleshoot potential safety hazards.
In addition, the hot weather makes the elderly service hotline in Hongkou District busy, and many elderly people call that they want to repair electrical appliances. To this end, the elderly service department contacted relevant service providers to repair for the elderly in time and help the elderly spend the summer safely.
