Affected by high temperature and other reasons, the number of unpaid blood donors will be reduced accordingly every summer, causing insufficiency of blood for clinical use in Shanghai. In order to ease the tension of blood source, the communities in Hongkou will launch some blood donation activities. Thus, Liangcheng Community carried out blood donation on July 16, with more than 130 citizens volunteering to donate blood.
It is learned from Liangcheng Xincun Sub-district Community Activity Center that among the people who donate blood, there are residents, employees and private owners in the Sub-district, many of whom are new Shanghainese working and living here. It is understood that there is a large need of clinical-used blood in summer, but it is hot and the blood collection volume is reduced. Therefore, Shanghai's blood bank will have a suddenly-increased need in blood for use. In response, enterprises, government-sponsored institutions and communities concentrate on blood donation for emergency, in a bid to deal with that insufficient blood donation may cause insufficient supply of blood for clinical use.
According to the statistics from the District Blood Management Office, the district has collected the whole blood donated by 1,300 people from the community, enterprises and government-sponsored institutions, and the whole blood donated by 133 people from the street on July 1-15, with collecting a total of 286,600 milliliters of blood. And the blood donors have donated blood to 63-platelet treatment units.
Besides, the district will offer blood donation activities in Quyang Road Sub-district, North Sichuan Road Sub-district, Ouyang Road Sub-district and North Bund Sub-district in August. The people who want to donate blood can go to their neighborhood committee to inquire about the specific time, or they can go to Hongkou Rainbow Blood Donation House, No. 2388, North Sichuan Road.
