Nov. 14 ushered in the 9th World Diabetes Day, themed “healthy eating and diabetes”. Some Shanghai medical institutions provided medical consultations to arouse people’s attention to prevention and control of diabetes.
In Shanghai General Hospital Branch located in Hongkou, the district’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention cooperated with medical institutions in the district to provide free screening, free medical services and pamphlets of health tips to popularize the knowledge of diabetes prevention and control.
Reports say, China has seen its diabetes prevalence rate arrive at 11.6%, showing a trend of occurrence at younger ages. People below 40 years old, especially white-collar workers, are becoming the high risk group to suffer from the disease.
Experts reminded that it’s important for preventing diabetes to maintain a healthy lifestyle with healthy eating habits, and people are suggested to choose aerobic exercise like hiking and swimming for an a hour a day, which can largely reduce the risk of diabetes occurrence.
Besides, people who are obese, have family history of hypertension or suffer from hypertension and hyperlipidemia are recommended to receive early screening to avoid the occurrence of diabetes.
