Introducing Shanghai East Foreign Language School Affiliated to SISU (SEFLS)

Shanghai East Foreign Language School Affiliated to SISU (SEFLS), founded in 2013, is a 7-year (from Grade 6 to Grade 12) public school. The president of Shanghai Foreign Language School Affiliated to SISU (SFLS) also serves as the president of SEFLS. Inheriting the doctrine of serving the development of motherland and the cause of human progress and advocating the school motto of self-improvement, utmost sincerity and highest aspirations, SEFLS runs the education of a holistic development in moral character, intellect, physical well-being, aesthetics, and work skills, with an aim to nurture an international pool of talents characterized by loyalty, enthusiasm, advantages in foreign languages, and overall competence in liberal arts and sciences.

The foreign language curriculum of our school features small-sized classes, dual lingual programs, and multiple language courses including English, French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Additionally, we provide elective foreign language courses such as Arabic, Italian, Hebrew, Portuguese, and Korean. In an effort to build a “language +” school curriculum that merges different languages and subjects, we offer a wide range of optional courses, including advanced science that bridges high school and college, scientific innovation exploration, mathematical modeling, artificial intelligence, and studies on Chinese herbs, among other science and engineering integration courses.

SEFLS has successively become a member unit of the Multi-language Education Development Branch of the National Basic Foreign Language Education Research and Training Center, a member unit of the Shanghai Education International Exchange Association, a member school of the Middle School Spanish Alliance, a base for the writing program for middle school of Shanghai Morning Post, a training base for Shanghai teenage darting, a key language subject base school for the "double new" concept (new curriculum and new textbooks) in high schools in Hongkou District, a leading school for labor education in Hongkou District, and a drama alliance school in Hongkou District. SEFLS has won multiple educational titles in the region of Shanghai, namely Safe and Civilized Campus, Model School for governing the school by law, Model Unit for safe campus, Eco-friendly Campus, Water-saving Campus, Dedicated Team in the school logistics and security system, Civilized Campus in Hongkou District, and Model School for behavior norms in Hongkou District.

We embrace a "holistic development" philosophy, guiding teachers and students to collaboratively cultivate a campus culture centered on "telling China's story effectively in foreign languages." This initiative encourages students to broaden their perspectives through cultural immersion and gain insights through practical experiences. We actively promote a variety of student clubs, partnerships with local organizations, international cultural exchanges, and social practice projects. Activities include the Hongyan Drama Club, Student Reporter Team, Model United Nations, Traditional Crafting, bilingual mock trials, and interdisciplinary projects in the herbal garden on campus. These initiatives not only enhance students' foreign language proficiency but also improve their research skills, creativity, and essential competencies. Since the founding, both teachers and students have achieved remarkable success in competitions at international, national, and local levels, earning satisfaction from the community.
