Shikumen in Hongkou, in canton style
Narrow rooms were constructed in narrow spaces. All are compressed in them: the compressed existence and the compressed patterns of movement. Life in them is like a bonsai, with its branches and leaves green the same, its fruits rich the same. They are Shikumen (or stone gates) in Hongkou, in Canton style.
