With 16 cold weather shelters put into use, including Party Building Service Stations in Hengye residential area, Guangzhong Road Sub-district and in Huigu 270 Park as well as Guangzhong Community Cultural Activity Center, there have been hundreds of shelters against cold weather come into service this winter, providing temporary resting place for outdoor workers, such as sanitation workers, traffic coordinators and auxiliary police.
Fan Zhengfang, a traffic coordinator, helps maintain traffic order at the intersection of No. 1 North Zhongshan Road and Guangzhong Road. Since there are more people and traffics here, Fan gets to work early every morning. Though constantly walking around to keep order, Fan still feels chilly after standing for a long time because outdoor temperature dives below zero due to strong cold air hitting. Between the rush hours in the morning, Fan comes to Guangzhong Community Cultural Activity Center nearby to have a rest, where center staff offers a cup of hot water, warming her heart deeply.
It is said that free ginger tea, hot water, microwave oven and wireless Wi-Fi are served in the center. “Once in the winter, we outdoor workers had no place even to drink hot water. Trembling with cold, our work was greatly affected. Now, having a short break and hot water in the shelter, we can devote more energy into the work.”, said Fan.
Hongkou has initiated various membership units to provide outdoor workers with a temporary shelter in cold weather through building local Party building platform. Each district’s units have done their utmost to make room for service facilities and to add service content, enabling sheltering stations to “land” smoothly.
