Nearly 20 international students from Shanghai International Studies University took part in a spring-themed “City Walk” in Hongkou District, as local authorities expand grassroots efforts to promote cross-cultural engagement.
Organized by the Quyang Road Subdistrict, the event guided participants through key locations including Luxun Park, the North Bund waterfront and Bailian Quyang Shopping Center, combining seasonal cherry blossom viewing with urban exploration.
Students interacted with local residents and experienced public spaces central to the district’s cultural life. Organizers said the initiative aims to integrate international visitors into everyday community settings while showcasing Shanghai’s urban landscape and heritage.
“I’ve been in Shanghai for two weeks, and Lu Xun Park is very interesting,” said an Egyptian student fluent in Chinese. He described the park as feeling like “another world” and praised the city as both modern and vibrant.
Officials said the program is part of a broader strategy to build an international cultural exchange platform at the community level. More activities are planned to deepen engagement between Chinese residents and foreign visitors and to promote understanding of local culture.
