Hongkou District unveiled a wide-ranging lineup of cultural, commercial, tourism, sports and exhibition activities for the second quarter, aiming to stimulate consumption and introduce new experiences for residents and visitors.
The 2026 Spring Launch Season in Hongkou kicked off on April 3 at the Palace of the Sun at Ruihong Tiandi, where officials announced more than 100 events alongside a “Five Must” consumption list and a promotional guidebook for the quarter.
The initiative highlights five categories — must-play, must-see, must-buy, must-eat and must-try fitness — designed to integrate diverse consumption scenarios across waterfront areas, historic neighborhoods, commercial hubs and cultural landmarks.
Among featured activities, the INLET cultural block will host a spring-summer program combining outdoor pet-friendly events with indoor wellness experiences, including workshops, rooftop concerts and themed markets running through June.
Along Duolun Road, interactive theater markets will blend performances with creative retail, while themed couple-oriented events will take place at popular riverside and cultural sites.
In the entertainment category, concerts and performances will feature both domestic and international artists at venues including Hongkou Football Stadium and the North Bund AIA Grand Theatre.
Cultural programming will also include international exhibitions, such as a contemporary visual arts exchange event showcasing Chinese and Italian artists at a local museum.
Retail and lifestyle events will focus on seasonal consumption trends. A traditional wellness-themed market featuring heritage Chinese medicine practices and brands will be held at Ruihong Tiandi, while additional markets, product launches and floral fairs will take place across key commercial districts and parks.
Food-related events will include large-scale festivals and themed markets. A steak festival at Sinar Mas Plaza and an international coffee festival along the North Bund waterfront are expected to draw significant crowds, alongside night markets and global cuisine events.
Sports and fitness activities will also play a major role. A district-wide public fitness series will feature more than 50 events across 34 sports, while football tournaments, table tennis carnivals and waterfront walking events aim to promote mass participation.
Officials said the program reflects Hongkou’s broader strategy of integrating culture, commerce, tourism and sports to create immersive consumption experiences.
New cultural venues are also expected to enhance the offering, including a literary-themed waterfront space designed to combine reading, performances and retail.
By linking major events with commercial districts and public spaces, authorities aim to extend visitor stays and increase spending, shifting from short-term traffic to sustained consumption growth.
The district said it will continue to refine policies supporting new consumption models, including first-launch economy initiatives and guidelines for outdoor business operations, as it seeks to build a more dynamic and diversified consumer market.
