Hongkou District has launched a public welfare insurance program aimed at supporting newlyweds, expectant mothers and newborns, as part of efforts to ease family concerns and promote social well-being.
The “Sweet Love Pact” public insurance initiative was officially unveiled on April 2. The program introduces a combined “service plus protection” model designed to provide targeted support for young couples navigating marriage, pregnancy and early child-rearing.
Jiang Rui, director of Hongkou, attended the launch ceremony along with executives from insurance providers including New China Life Insurance Co. Ltd. and China Continent Property & Casualty Insurance Co. Ltd.
The initiative includes three core components. The “Sweet Love Dream Plan” offers honeymoon travel insurance for couples who register their marriage in Hongkou.
The “Sweet Love Guardian Plan” provides coverage for seven pregnancy-related medical conditions for expectant mothers, as well as for young professional families and military families residing in the district. Officials said the plan integrates financial protection, health services and social support.
A third component, the “Sweet Love Baby Plan,” provides insurance coverage for eight types of illnesses affecting newborns, addressing a gap in inclusive insurance products for infants.
At the launch event, representatives of newlywed couples, young professionals, expectant mothers and military families received program benefits.
Some participants shared their experiences, highlighting how the initiative helps reduce financial and emotional pressures associated with starting a family.
Officials said the program reflects a broader effort by the district to address public needs through targeted policy measures.
By expanding support for families, the initiative aims to encourage young people to pursue careers and build their lives in Hongkou while contributing to long-term population development.
Authorities added that the district will continue to refine public services and strengthen support systems for families, with the goal of improving quality of life and fostering sustainable social and economic growth.
