Hongkou District marked a major step in expanding its global talent strategy with the inauguration of its first overseas talent workstation, launched recently at the Shanghai Industrial Investment Building in Hong Kong.
The opening ceremony was attended by Jiang Renhui, member of the Hongkou District Standing Committee and head of the district’s Organization Department, who unveiled the plaque for the new station.
The establishment of the Hongkou Overseas Talent Workstation is an innovative initiative rooted in the district’s ambition to attract global professionals.
It also aligns with Shanghai’s broader campaign to become a world-class hub for talent. The workstation is designed to support Hongkou’s goals of becoming a central gathering place for top-tier global talent and resources.
Located in one of Asia’s key international gateways, the Hong Kong station reflects Hongkou’s deepening collaboration with the city and signals a new phase in building an international talent network.
It also plays a pivotal role in enhancing the recruitment and development of global talent, particularly in science, technology, and professional services.
The station is operated in partnership with the Oriental Talent Exchange and Development Center (Asia-Pacific), which serves as both a promotional platform for Hongkou and a bridge for international engagement.
The center will showcase the district’s economic strengths, key industrial sectors, talent recruitment goals, innovation resources, and favorable business environment.
It will also actively align with national strategies by strengthening ties with universities and institutions across Hong Kong.
A two-way communication platform between industries and talent will be built to enhance cooperation.
The station will organize regular recruitment missions to Hong Kong, inviting Hong Kong-based professionals and innovation projects to visit and collaborate with firms in Shanghai. These efforts aim to draw more international talent and global innovation assets to the district.
As part of the launch, officials from the Hongkou District Organization Department (Talent Office), Science and Technology Commission, Justice Bureau, and Data Bureau held discussions with representatives from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the University of Macau, and the China Notary Association Limited.
The talks focused on academic cooperation, professional exchange, and cross-border collaboration.
Looking ahead, Hongkou plans to fully utilize the workstation to establish a long-term cooperation mechanism between Shanghai and Hong Kong.
The district will advance joint talent training, align strategic industries, and explore deeper partnerships in data governance, legal training, and scientific innovation.
Special attention will be given to Hongkou’s key sectors, including emerging industries and foundational enterprises, to promote collaboration in talent acquisition, international project integration, and enterprise incubation.
By leveraging this new outpost, Hongkou aims to create a dynamic cycle of dual recruitment—drawing both talent and investment—and to strengthen its position as a magnet for global innovation and high-end human capital.
