Hongkou Party Secretary Li Qian met with Marius Berlemann, Chief Operating Officer and China Chairman of Messe Düsseldorf Group, on Wednesday morning to discuss strengthening international cooperation and reaffirming Hongkou’s commitment to high-level openness.
Messe Düsseldorf Group, one of Germany’s top five exhibition organizers, relocated its wholly owned China subsidiary to Sinar Mas Plaza in Hongkou in 2021.
The company specializes in organizing and managing exhibitions and trade fairs within China and supporting Chinese enterprises in participating in global events under the group’s portfolio. In 2023, the subsidiary was recognized as a regional headquarters in Hongkou.
Li welcomed Berlemann and his team, emphasizing that the North Bund area is rapidly becoming a magnet for global high-end resources and leading market players.
Despite global uncertainties, Hongkou remains firmly committed to expanding its international openness. Hongkou is integrating the bringing in and going global strategies, innovating policy frameworks, and upgrading services to establish a robust ecosystem for foreign businesses, Li said.
He extended a warm invitation to more German enterprises to explore the Chinese market through Hongkou, highlighting the district’s favorable investment environment and commitment to win-win cooperation.
Berlemann expressed appreciation for Hongkou’s continued support. “We’re confident in the Chinese market and grateful for the district’s exhibition industry policies,” he said, noting that the company had successfully hosted several high-profile international trade shows in Hongkou, enhancing the district’s industrial competitiveness.
He added that despite current global challenges, there are many opportunities, and Messe Düsseldorf looks forward to deepening long-term collaboration with Hongkou.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy District Director Chen Shuai and Gu Yan, General Manager of Messe Düsseldorf’s China operations.
