The North Bund Riverside Flower Market officially opened along the Suzhou Creek in Hongkou District on March 12, offering residents a new scenic spot to enjoy blossoms, shop for flowers, and capture picturesque moments.
The market, located along Jiangxi Road N. and North Suzhou Road, features 30 distinctive stalls under the theme of "Low Carbon, Green Living."
Vendors offer a variety of products, including fresh flowers, potted plants, organic light foods, traditional handicrafts, and international beauty products. The vibrant market attracted a steady stream of visitors, undeterred by the light rain and riverside breeze.
Visitors were greeted by colorful blooms, with azaleas, roses, lupines, and sunflowers in full display. Aromatic herbs like rosemary, geraniums, and verbena added a fragrant touch to the floral exhibition.
In addition to fresh flowers, the market introduced a range of sustainable lifestyle offerings. Visitors explored fragrant experiences, biodegradable plant-based handbags, natural beauty products, and floral-inspired afternoon teas.
A sustainable living cluster showcased eco-friendly products, while an organic food zone and displays of innovative cultural heritage crafts highlighted the blend of international resources and local practices.
“This flower market will be held regularly on holidays and weekends,” said Lin Jingfei, director of the Community Management Office of the North Bund Subdistrict.
“We aim to use the market as a platform to engage nearby residents and professionals in gardening workshops and horticultural training sessions. With government guidance, community participation, and corporate collaboration, we hope to build a greener, more sustainable neighborhood.”
Adding to the green initiative, the North Bund Riverside Citizen Gardening Center was also inaugurated on the same day. Closely linked with the flower market, the center will host floral salons, flower arrangement training, and plant care workshops.
Through these activities, the center encourages white-collar workers and community members to engage in hands-on horticulture, creating a circular experience of “buying flowers, learning floral arts, and self-managing green spaces.”
With its mix of floral beauty and sustainable living concepts, the riverside market is set to become a popular gathering spot for nature lovers and eco-conscious shoppers alike.
