Hongkou District leaders visited COSCO Shipping Group, a major state-owned enterprise and global leader in integrated shipping and logistics on February 5, the first working day of the Year of the Snake.
The visit focused on discussing the group’s development plans and the ongoing support for Hongkou’s economic growth.
It coincided with the launch of Shanghai’s 8.0 version of the Business Environment Optimization Action Plan, aimed at enhancing the business climate for enterprises.
Li Qian, the Party Secretary of Hongkou District, and Lu Ming, the District Director, were accompanied by senior officials during the visit.
They met with Wan Min, Chairman of COSCO Shipping Group, for an in-depth discussion on the company’s global operations and future strategies.
COSCO Shipping Group is one of China’s largest state-owned enterprises and a world leader in shipping and logistics.
The company operates a comprehensive global network, providing services in shipping, port operations, logistics, digital innovation, and supply chain management.
The group is dedicated to building an integrated service system that connects shipping, ports, and logistics, while focusing on digital transformation, green development, and smart technologies.
Wan Min expressed appreciation for the continued support from Hongkou District for the group’s development and outlined the company’s operations.
He emphasized COSCO’s robust global service network and the advantages it has in integrated shipping, port logistics, and shipbuilding.
COSCO’s fleet capacity, container fleet scale, and container manufacturing capacity are among the largest in the world.
He also acknowledged Hongkou’s efforts to develop as a key hub for high-end shipping services, particularly in the North Bund area, and highlighted the group’s commitment to further advancing digital and green transformation.
Li Qian congratulated COSCO on its achievements, particularly in supply chain management, digitalization, and green shipping initiatives.
He stressed the importance of aligning with national strategies and planning for future development.
Li urged that Hongkou continue to focus on high-end maritime services, including shipping finance, shipping economics, and maritime insurance, while fostering innovation and improving resource allocation.
He reaffirmed that Hongkou is committed to enhancing its business environment to make it market-oriented, rule of law-based, and internationally competitive, ensuring COSCO’s continued success.
Lu Ming highlighted the rapid economic growth in Hongkou over the past year, with significant development in the North Bund area.
He thanked COSCO for its role in driving this progress. Looking ahead, he noted that Hongkou will continue to prioritize high-quality development, using the North Bund as a catalyst to advance the district’s modernized infrastructure and services.
He expressed hope that COSCO would continue to support Hongkou’s development by expanding its digital and green initiatives, especially in ship procurement and technology upgrades, and help Hongkou lead the way in these new areas.
