The 6th Shanghai International LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Shipping Forum, themed "LNG Supply Chain Security and Development," took place on October 28 and 29 at the W Hotel in Hongkou's North Bund.
Hosted by COSCO Shipping Energy and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, with support from the Shanghai COSCO Shipping LNG, the event gathered industry leaders to discuss LNG industry challenges and opportunities.
COSCO Shipping Group General Manager Zhu Bixin underscored the need for resilience and innovation in the face of a restructured global LNG market and growing investments in clean energy.
He emphasized strengthening cooperation across the international LNG supply chain to support global energy security and economic growth.
Hongkou Party Secretary Li Qian highlighted Hongkou’s role as a key shipping hub and a leader in Shanghai’s green, low-carbon development initiatives. Li expressed Hongkou's commitment to facilitating sustainable growth in the LNG industry by building a full-cycle service ecosystem.
Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration’s Deputy Director, Cao Jie, affirmed the administration’s dedication to LNG supply chain stability as part of China’s broader maritime strategy. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines CEO Takeshi Hashimoto reiterated the critical role of LNG as a transitional energy source, announcing plans to expand its LNG fleet by more than 90 vessels by 2030.
A significant highlight of the forum was the signing of strategic agreements. COSCO Shipping and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines committed to strengthening cooperation across various areas, including energy transport, green applications, and shipbuilding, while COSCO Shipping also signed a technical partnership with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding to advance digital twin technologies for large LNG carriers.
Forum experts shared insights on global energy trends, smart shipping, and safety management, emphasizing digital and green transformations.
With over 200 participants, including energy companies, shipbuilders, financial institutions, and equipment suppliers, the event showcased Hongkou’s role as a hub for sustainable innovation in shipping.
Hongkou’s ongoing efforts to drive green shipping were further highlighted through initiatives like the North Bund International Shipping Green Development Community.
As Shanghai pursues its goal of becoming a leading international shipping center, Hongkou is playing a crucial role by fostering a supportive, market-oriented environment for sustainable shipping advancements.
