The comprehensive renovation project of Shanghai Swan Hotel, a key initiative for the enhancement of Sichuan Road N., officially commenced on the morning of June 13.
Originally opened in June 1987 as Shanghai Swan Xinyi Hotel, the hotel was among the city's first foreign-related three-star hotels. In 2019, it was transferred to Rongtong Group and is now managed by China Rongtong Travel Industry Development Group Co., Ltd.
Located north of Luxun Park, Hongkou Football Stadium, and Hongkou Plaza, and south of Tieling Road and Duolun Road Cultural Street, the hotel's strategic position is pivotal for enhancing the surrounding area and promoting the integrated development of commerce, tourism, culture, and sports, the Hongkou District government said.
The renovation of Shanghai Swan Hotel will span six months and aims to transform the establishment into a new business boutique hotel.
The project, with a total construction area of 14,511.7 square meters and an investment exceeding 95 million yuan, will incorporate elements of red culture, Shanghai-style culture, celebrity culture, and military culture from the Sichuan Road N. area.
The renovation focuses on creating a dialogue of "cultural charm, sophistication, and taste," reinterpreting the traditional hotel space with multi-layered design to create a new spatial texture.
The project will include the renovation of 181 guest rooms, along with supporting facilities such as restaurants, conference rooms, and fitness centers.
It will retain elements of its history as Hongkou District's first three-star hotel, aiming to offer business and leisure travelers a comfortable resting space, pleasant experience, high-quality service standards, green environmental concepts, and unique design.
The project aims to establish a landmark in urban renewal and the integration of commerce, tourism, culture, and sports in the area.
An official taking charge of the project highlighted the significant role of the Swan Hotel renovation in enhancing the Sichuan Road N. commercial area, promoting industrial transformation, and achieving a balance between residential and commercial functions.
Hongkou District is currently focusing on strengthening the construction of the "Five Centers" in Shanghai and accelerating the implementation of the three-year action plan for the enhancement of Sichuan Road N.
Since the beginning of this year, several projects have commenced, including the 176 Block, Derring Apartments, and Duolun Road urban renewal projects.
The Bingang Commercial Center and Shanghai Literature Museum are under rapid development, and the renovation and transformation of commercial complexes like CITIC Plaza and Tianxing Department Store are underway.
Restoration of historical lane houses and comprehensive municipal environmental improvements are also in progress. These efforts aim to revitalize the Sichuan Road N. commercial area, improve the quality of residential environments, optimize public space facilities, reshape the historical charm, and rejuvenate commercial and business vitality.
