The inaugural meeting of the first council of Tongji University Hongkou Basic Education Group and the unveiling ceremony of Tongji University Affiliated Chengzhong High School took place on May 28.
Attendees included Fang Shouen, Party Secretary of Tongji University; Li Qian, Secretary of the Hongkou District Committee; and Yang Zhenfeng, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. Other attendees included Lü Peiming, Executive Vice President of Tongji University; Jiang Aifeng, Deputy Secretary of the Hongkou District Committee; Wu Guangming, Deputy Party Secretary of Tongji University; and Chen Xiaojie, Deputy District Mayor of Hongkou.
The leaders unveiled the Tongji University Affiliated Chengzhong High School and presented appointment letters to the school principal.
Fang Shouen, the Party Secretary of Tongji University, praised the longstanding cooperation between the university and Hongkou District, noting the fruitful and practical achievements resulting from their partnership.
He expressed hope that the new platform would focus on innovative educational management, improving teaching capabilities, and reforming student cultivation models.
He emphasized the need for seamless integration between basic and higher education, optimizing group-based school management mechanisms, and ensuring the successful implementation of district-school cooperation projects to support Hongkou's high-quality development with talent and technological resources.
Li Qian highlighted the importance of deepening collaboration in technological innovation, smart city construction, and North Bund development to build a modern industrial system unique to Hongkou and promote sustainable urban renewal.
Yang Zhenfeng, deputy director of the Shanghai Education Commission, acknowledged Hongkou District's emphasis on quality education and Tongji University's strong educational resources.
He expressed hope for strengthened district-school cooperation in management models, teaching reforms, and talent cultivation, underscoring the importance of fulfilling the fundamental tasks of nurturing talents.
He called for accelerating innovative talent cultivation and promoting project-based, exploratory, and interactive teaching practices to set a new benchmark for cooperative education between districts and schools.
The council of Tongji University Hongkou Basic Education Group was established and held its first meeting. The meeting introduced the council's member list, reviewed the group's charter, presented appointment letters to experts, and discussed the development plan for Tongji University Affiliated Chengzhong High School.
To align with the goal of creating a top-tier education system that complements the "Shanghai North Bund, a new urban benchmark," Hongkou and Tongji have leveraged their resources to deepen cooperation, sharing educational resources.
In 2021, they signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement, followed by the establishment of Tongji University Hongkou Basic Education Group in 2022. This group covers all levels of basic education, from kindergarten to high school, exploring an integrated education system that connects basic and higher education.
The newly unveiled Tongji University Affiliated Chengzhong High School will be fully managed by a team appointed by Tongji University, utilizing the university's professional advantages and social resources to develop the school into a renowned public high school in Shanghai and across China.
As it begins this new chapter, the school will launch the "Chengzhong Light" series of programs, covering student growth, teacher development, educational innovation, and cultural construction, to enhance educational quality and cultivate students with strong academic foundations, innovative spirit, and social responsibility.
