The urban renewal project on the historical Duolun Road in Hongkou District began on April 30, marking a significant development aimed at enhancing the Sichuan Road N. area through innovation.
The project is in the historic cultural preservation area of Shanyin Road and adjacent to Duolun Road, a street famous for its cultural luminaries.
It occupies a strategic and culturally rich site essential for the transformation and enhancement of Sichuan Road N. as well as the broader urban renewal efforts in Hongkou, according to the district government.
The project, with a planned total construction area of nearly 220,000 square meters, aims to leverage its unique location and the cultural heritage of Duolun Road to establish a new landmark for the region.
It is designed to include three themed zones—Inspiration Oasis, Luxury Community, and Poetic Realm—and is divided into two phases with completion expected by May 2028.
Phase one of the project will focus on creating a business cluster guided by TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) principles. It aims to set a new standard for office spaces in the region through upscale building aesthetics, extensive public spaces, diversified industrial influx, and comprehensive commercial facilities, with completion targeted for December 2026.
The second phase will integrate historical alleyways such as Mainali Lane and Liulin Lane with the Sichuan Road N. commercial street.
It is envisioned as a culturally-themed commercial group that deeply explores the avant-garde culture of Duolun Road, embedding elements of humanities, art, and modern Chinese trends to establish an internationally recognized cultural landmark in Shanghai. It will reshape the centennial image of Duolun Road.
Moreover, the project will develop multiple functional zones including a commercial transformation belt, Duolun cultural core area, office complex zone, and mixed-development belt to create a fashionable, multi-functional, public lifestyle space.
To efficiently advance the project development and set a new benchmark for "government-business co-construction," the initiative also launched pioneer teams comprising young workers and employees on the eve of Labor Day and Youth Day.
These teams will collaborate to promote urban renewal, historical preservation, and neighborhood revitalization while embodying the spirit of model workers, laborers, and artisans, showcasing the vitality of youth.
