Hongkou District's commercial market has witnessed remarkable sales growth across multiple sectors during the Year of the Dragon's Spring Festival celebration.
According to statistics, shopping centers saw an 18.9 percent increase in sales compared to the previous year. Restaurants enjoyed a 51.8 percent surge, while the specialty retail achieved a 15.6 percent growth. Supermarkets and department stores reported a 13.4 percent rise in sales.
This period marked a vibrant start to the year, showcasing a diverse range of festive offerings and consumer engagements, the district government said.
Highlights from the festive season included Ruihong Tiandi's New Year decorations featuring 18 handcrafted auspicious lions and over 100 heritage fish lanterns, introducing a unique shopping and cultural experience with a mix of traditional Chinese New Year goods and interactive heritage craft stalls.
The INLET utilized its historic alleyways and buildings to blend traditional Chinese culture with Shanghai's local flair, creating a distinctive "Shanghai-style Dragon Year" atmosphere through various activities.
The CapitaLand’s Hongkou Plaza collaborated with artists to introduce a themed art installation and market featuring traditional Chinese handcrafts and New Year items, filling residents' holidays with cultural festivities.
The North Bund area, known for its "international flair," introduced globally popular IPs at the Sinar Mas Plaza and combined them with traditional Chinese New Year themes to offer a series of thematic parks and events, enriching the festive spirit with a blend of international and local cultures.
Community commercial centers also embraced the festive mood, with initiatives like the Life Hub@UPBund Plaza launching events to promote a harmonious living environment and the Bailian Quyang Shopping Center offering activities to bring good fortune and blessings to residents and visitors alike.
Moreover, key e-commerce enterprises in Hongkou took advantage of the "2024 National Online New Year Shopping Festival" to launch various online promotions, catering to the diverse needs of celebrating the Lunar New Year, family reunions, and social gatherings.
Promotional activities ranged from Shanghai Jahwa's New Year home cleaning campaigns to Belle's "buy one, get one free" offers, demonstrating the district's adaptability in meeting consumer demands both online and offline.
The concerted effort by businesses and the district's leadership to enhance the Lunar New Year shopping and dining experience significantly contributed to the festive season's economic vibrancy, according to the district government.
