On the evening of September 16, the opening ceremony of the 34th Shanghai Tourism Festival in 2023, with the theme of Lighting up the World’s Reception Hall, was held at the North Bund of Hongkou at the intersection of the Huangpu River and the Suzhou Creek.
The opening ceremony filled the night's North Bund with a beautiful and joyful festive atmosphere. This opening event consists of four chapters: the World’s Reception Hall, Colorfulness, Abundance, and Radiant Light. For the first time, sub-venues have been set up in 12 cities in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, and Fujian.
At the event site, 19 colorful boats, 16 themed floats, and 1,000 drones form a three-dimensional flowing landscape, presenting a panoramic view of Shanghai's urban scenery and cultural charm.
On both sides of the Huangpu River and the Suzhou Creek, 16 floats feature themes such as “My Hometown: Henan” and “Tourism in Shigatse”, showcasing the cultural customs of various regions in China; the 19 color boats on the Huangpu River showcase the charm of urban culture and tourism with themes such as the Tour on the Huangpu River and the Suzhou Creek, Readable Architecture, and Shanghai-style Urban Archaeology.
At the opening event, several city-walk routes were also released, which were believed to be loved by citizens and tourists from afar.
During the Shanghai Tourism Festival, Hongkou will seize the opportunity to host the opening ceremony and increase the supply of various cultural and tourism activities in an all-round, multi-dimensional, and wide-ranging manner. This will achieve a whole-region linkage and a whole-city carnival for the North Bund Art Shoreline, the Sichuan North Road Performance New Alliance, and the Luxun-Park-Rim Art and Culture Community.
The Shanghai Tourism Festival, founded in 1990, is one of the oldest tourism festivals in China. Its development reflects new changes in the tourism market.
This year’s tourism festival adheres to the people-oriented principle, starting from the most resourceful and advantageous places in Shanghai, empowering a better life in the city, and allowing citizens and tourists to fully experience the unique charm of Shanghai.
The 34th Shanghai Tourism Festival will be held from September 16 to October 6.
