Luxun Path, more than 1,000 meters long, involves many roads that will never be widened. Compared with its rich historical and cultural heritage, the scale of the block is slightly limited. How to better promote urban refined governance and maximize the use of the existing space to solve the people's constantly improving urban public function needs is also a practical issue that the North Sichuan Road Sub-district must face, which tests the wisdom and courage of making full use of every space.
Since this year, North Sichuan Road Sub-district has carried out the construction of "Luxun-themed Pocket Park on Changchun Road " and "North Section of North Sichuan Road - Tian’ai Road – Baohua-Plaza-Rim Reconstruction and Design Project". Thanks to the micro renewal urban life and cultural context have been connected, and the landscape and content of Luxun Path have been further enriched. A tangible, touchable and happy life has been provided for residents.
The Micro Renewal of Street Landscape
Encountering Little Happiness at the Corner
The "Luxun-themed Pocket Park" project, located at the corner of the Shaxun Row House and Changchun Apartment on Changchun Road, adjacent to the Woodcut Workshop, is an important landscape of Luxun Path. Originally, it was a sleeping space enclosed by a wall, with weeds and garbage everywhere. In just a few months, after the renovation, it has become a reception hall at the street corner, called Zhaohuaxishi (Dawn Blossoms Plucked at Dusk).
The total greenbelt area of the reception hall is about 165 square meters, including 78 square meters of hard green space and 87 square meters of green space. Although it is small, the happiness it carries is not little. Here, tourists gather under the shade of trees to rest. The elderly walked along the footpath. Beside the flower bed, the young mothers carefully protect the toddlers. The warm atmosphere of life in the mini park shows the most moving picture of life on North Sichuan Road.
When the night comes, the pocket park will show its splendor under the interweaving of lights and shadows. The line lights outline the shape of cherry blossoms, bringing a visual sense of scattered layers. The interaction between the light and nature not only makes the green space look like a dream, but also warms the way for residents and tourists to return home.
Since this year, 52 cherry trees have been planted on Baohua Plaza and its surrounding Tian’ai Road and Tian’ai Branch Road. When the flowers bloom in the warm spring, the cherry trees will compete with each other, which adds another reason to visit here. On the Tian’ai Road, which is known as the most romantic road in Shanghai, a love traffic light with a big red bow has also been quietly set up. The artistic device that visualizes love is always greeting to the passing people.
More than Beauty
More Stories about the Corner Reception Hall
In the process of building the corner reception hall, North Sichuan Road Sub-district actively practices the important concept of the people's city and the people's democracy in the whole process. At the beginning of the construction, the sub-district set up a temporary Party branch for the project, gave full play to the core role of the Party building in the residential area and the collaborative force of multiple subjects, started from the needs of the masses, listened to the aspirations of the residents, and released the energy efficiency of community governance.
According to the opinions of residents and the actual work, the project implements the six-word work method of "planning, demolition, construction, management, governance and gain. It optimizes the planning through consultation, demolishes illegal buildings by eliminating hidden dangers, builds homes by renovating, strengthens management by performing duties, improves governance by increasing efficiency, and gains quality by beautifying the environment. Flowers, green plants, rest seats, and landscape are all available here, forming an open public space, to improve the residents' sense of experience and happiness in daily living.
As an important landscape on Luxun Path, the building of the corner reception hall not only enhances the beauty here, but also incorporates the unique gene here. Its name "Dawn Blossoms Plucked at Dusk" is taken from Lu Xun's collection of reminiscent essays. In terms of the design, the sub-district also further refined Lu Xun's culture by integrating the woodcut knife technique with the site building texture. The red brick floor of the square sidewalk, which is based on the typical woodcut knife technique "cloud line", flows with a strong historical charm and harmoniously blends with its adjacent woodcut workshop.
The micro renewal of Luxun Path is to be continued. In the future, North Sichuan Road Sub-district will continue to give priority to the people’s livelihood, make the general public feel that the city is always new, beautiful and warm, and further promote the high-quality development, the efficient governance and the high-quality life.
