10th Anniversary for Opening of Memorial Site of the 4th CPC National Congress Held

For carrying forward the great spirits of building the Party, continuing the spirits of the Communists and embracing the successful convention of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the 10th anniversary for the opening of the Memorial Site of the Fourth National Congress of the Communist Party of China with the theme of “Keeping Words in Mind and Forging Ahead” was held on September 7, sponsored by the Publicity Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, the Party History Research Office of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, the CPC Hongkou District Committee, the Venue Management Committee of the First, Second and Fourth CPC National Congress and the Memorial Site of the CPC Fourth National Congress.

Attending the activity were relevant officials at the municipality and district levels, such as Guo Fang, Standing Member of the Municipal Party Committee and Chief of the Hongkou District Party Committee, Pan Min, Deputy Publicity Director of the Municipal Party Committee, Director of the General Office of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Spiritual Civilization Construction and Director of the Venue Management Committee of the First, Second and Fourth CPC National Congress, Xu Jiangang, Executive Vice President of the Municipal Party School, Yan Aiyun, Director of the Party History Research General Office of the Municipal Party Committee, Wu Qiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Hongkou District Party Committee and Head of Publicity Department, Xue Feng, Chief of the Party Committee and Curator of the Memorial Site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Xin Ping, President of the Municipal Communist Party History Society together with experts and guest representatives from all walks of life.

The ten years of the Memorial Site of the Fourth National Congress is a period when the words are deeply kept in mind and we forge ahead, when we inherit and practice red gene, when we safeguard our red matrix and when we practice the mass routine.

The Fourth National Congress of the Communist Party of China, held in Hongkou, Shanghai in January 1925, was a very important congress in the history of the Party, marking the development of the Communist Party of China from a small propaganda-featured political group to a real mass political party. When visiting the exhibition of historical material of the Fourth National Congress in 2007, Xi Jinping, Chief of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee at that time, solemnly said that we must record the history of the Party completely and educate generation by generation, including the construction of the Memorial Site of the Fourth National Congress. With the care and support of the Central Committee, the Shanghai Municipal Committee and the Hongkou District Committee and Government, the Memorial Site of the Fourth CPC National Congress was officially completed and opened on the eve of the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012 and Xi Jinping’s instructions was completed. Last year, at the centenary of the founding of the Party, the Memorial Site of the Fourth National Congress completed the promotion of exhibition and display, and built the first national flag education exhibition hall in Shanghai.

In the past ten years, the Memorial Site of the Fourth National Congress of the Communist Party of China has kept Xi Jinping’s instructions in mind, studied the historical context hard, deeply promoted the exploration and publicity project of the "Birthplace of the Party", and tried to tell the stories of the Fourth National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the birthplace of the Party in Shanghai so as to make the Memorial Site a red landmark for Party members, cadres and the masses to pursue the glorious course and remember the great cause of their predecessors.

The red-flower volunteer commentators of the "Source of Strength" volunteer service team were invited to host the activity in the way of scenario interpretation.

Li Zhongjie, the former deputy director of the Party History Research Office of the CPC Central Committee, delivered a speech to the event through video link, and expressed warm congratulations on the 10th anniversary for the opening of the Memorial Site of the Fourth National Congress of the Communist Party of China, focusing on such keywords as congratulations and learning, status and sharing and hopes and suggestions. He said that we should further explore relics and materials of the Fourth CPC National Congress, expand the series special study on "the Communist Party of China in Hongkou District", strengthen the cooperation and exchanges among the First, Second and Fourth CPC National Congresses, and continue to explore and protect important red sites. In Wu Qiang’s speech, he reviewed the development history of the Memorial Site of the Fourth CPC National Congress in the past 10 years. He pointed out that in the new decade, the Memorial Site of the Fourth CPC National Congress will continue to tell the stories, polish the red brand of "the Source of Strength", spread the red culture, inherit the red gene, unswervingly walk into the future, and strive to make the Memorial Site of the Fourth CPC National Congress reach a new level.
