The Hongkou Quarter-final of the Handicraft Competition of the 2015 Shanghai Citizens Art Festival (SCAF), which is organized by Hongkou District Bureau of Culture and undertaken by Hongkou District Cultural Center, was held on August 4.
45 contestants from 8 communities participated in the current activity and 160 works were selected, including such traditional handicraft items as creative weaving, paper-cutting, knot-weaving, copper etching, handmade sachet, and tiny sculpture on gourd. After assessment, 30 works entered into the finals.
The competition sets up a platform of display and exchange for handicraft lovers and gives a major push to inherit and carry forward the Chinese national and folk cultural arts and to further promote the popularity of handicrafts and cultural arts in the general public and the spread of featured local handicraft culture.
