June 6 is the twentieth "National Eyes Caring Day" with a theme of "Say Goodbye to Trachoma Blind, Pay Attention to Eye Health". Some medical institutions held various promotion activities to provide more prevention and treatment knowledge of eye diseases.
Experts and professors from Shanghai Heping Ophthalmic Hospital provided charity clinic for the public in Luxun Park. During the National Eye-Care Day, the hospital held a public lecture "Common Reasons and Causes for Children's Eyesight Problems" The vice president Zhu Li has explained a serious of hot issues like, how to protect eyes for children under 3 years old, whether sunglasses bring negative effects in the vision development of children. Many parents benefited from the informative and practicable lecture.
On June 6, Shanghai Construction Group Hospital held charity clinic in its Department of Ophthalmology, and invited renowned experts from some ophthalmology of grade 3 and first-class hospitals in the city. For a nonprofit expression, the hospital will provide price reduction and exemption to patients who needs cataract surgeries after attending this charity clinic.

Trachoma is one of the eye diseases that the World Health Organization focuses on preventing. Repeated infection of trachoma leads to a result of eyelid conjunctiva scarring and trichinas, and causes damage for cornea, and visual impairment and even blindness. Till the end of 2014, the trachoma prevalence rate for students in middle schools and primary schools of Shanghai has dropped to 0.12%. According to the World Health Organization’s definition, "Prevalence rate dropping to 1% means elimination of trachoma", our city has reached the target 2 years in advance.
