On February 8, “Trees of Civility” were erected in major venues and communities in Hongkou District. As part of the campaign of “volunteers fighting against uncivil conducts”, it was aimed at collecting public opinions about uncivil conducts.
In the venues in Luxun Park and the green belt on North Sichuan Road, these Trees of Civility attracted many people. Such a “tree” demonstrated uncivil conducts accompanied by texts and pictures on a board, including dishonest vendors, littering around and inconsiderate pet raising. People were invited to attach leaf stickers of different colors to the conducts that they decry the most.
The campaign was also launched in all communities in Hongkou District to arouse people’s attention to uncivil conducts in their living environment.
In the venues of Quyang Road Community and Jiangwan Community, local residents came to the trees to “vote” for the top uncivil conducts in their opinions. Still many others put down the uncivil conducts in their eyes to remind people around them. On the spot, volunteers also presented New Year scrolls to people, which were also themed at civility, in the hope of having more local residents involved in establishing Hongkou District as a district of civility.
And in the venue of Guangzhong Road Community, volunteers set up these trees at the entrance of Jinyi Cinemas and handily advised the viewers to observe civility in watching films. People shared their opinions about uncivil viewing habits via WeChat, like “being late for the opening”, “talking loud or answering the phone while watching”. And those who took part in the activity would be presented a succulent plant to remind themselves of civility in their home or office all the time.
Reports say, in addition to the activity, volunteers also gave instructions about observing traffic rules at landmark malls along North Sichuan Road, and about queuing and correctly getting on and off the subway at stations of Metro Line 10, Line 3 and Line 8, with publicity packages delivered.
