China Government Website recently released the list of 4th batch national intangible cultural heritage and “Chin Woo Martial Art” was selected.
It is learned that this list was determined by Ministry of Culture of the PRC and approved by State Council. There are 153 items included in this list and “Chin Woo Martial Art” was classified into “traditional sports, games and acrobatics”.
For Shanghai Chin Woo Athletic Federation, the application for intangible cultural heritage is more than a gesture, and this success would not mean a terminal, but means to succeed and develop Chin Woo Martial Art in the new era. According to the responsible person of Shanghai Chin Woo Athletic Federation, they would summarize forms of these martial arts to develop a set of forms based on traditional Chin Woo martial arts which could meet market demands and could be learned in an easy way. It would refer to the mode of taekwondo and karate to develop a “standard” form for market promotion. In the meantime, this would also be a try for promoting martial art to the market and to break the bottleneck in this regard.
With national support to develop sports industry, Hongkou would develop Chin Woo Sports and Cultural Street on the basis of Chin Woo brand and the theme of Chin Woo sports spirit. Now, Hongkou has adopted a series of actions to develop Chin Woo sports. Hongkou Stadium was officially named as Chin Woo Stadium, and they also build Chin Woo Park, and they would develop a theme project, including Chin Woo street, Chin Woo subway station, a Chin Woo Museum, a Chin Woo school and on on.
The reporter learned that the renovation of Yuedong Bridge on West Hailun Road Yujing Pu was finished and the bridge was officially renamed as “Chin Woo Bridge”. Yuedong Middle School behind the bridge was also in the progress of renovation and it would be turned into “Chin Woo School” in the future. It is estimated that the school would open to teach in February, 2015. “Chin Woo Health Club” and “Chin Woo Martial Art Club” would also open to the public to offer health and martial art courses to residents. It is also learned that Chin Woo Culture Summit featuring the theme of “Value of Martial Art in Modern Society” was held in Hongkou today.
